Letter #42 - "i am living in a world like nacho libre........ it is WONDERFUL!" - La Blanca, Guatemala

well here we are again.... so yeah it was another hot week in La Blanca and it was a tough week.  i feel like i dont know what is going on.  we will have a really good week and then a bad week and then another good week and then another bad week and i dont know why it is like that.  all i know is that we are going to keep working.  for the most part it is all good.  we have like 4 investigators that have the desire to be baptized and they are all so close but there is just one thing holding them back and i dont know how to help them get over the hump and into the water so that is really really frustrating but i just have to keep going... hahaha a lot of the time i feel like i am living in a world like nacho libre........ it is WONDERFUL

i would like to share with you a story that i read that i really really liked.  it is in 2 kings 5.  it has to do with namaan and elisa. i guess the easiest thing to do is just paste the story here so that is what i will do.

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a aleper.
2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.
3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.
4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.
5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and atook with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.
6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.
7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I aGod, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he bseeketh a quarrel against me.
8 ¶And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a aprophet in Israel.
9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and awash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be bclean.
11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.
13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some agreat thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, aaccording to the saying of the man of God: and his bflesh came again like unto the cflesh of a little child, and he was dclean.

but yeah i really like that story because many times we are like namaan we are willing to do big and difficult things but the Lord many times only askes us to do the small and simple things (Alma 37:6-7).  i guess rough weeks are something that i have to deal with and i know that if i just keep fighting and keep doing the small and simple things God will bless me, and i know it is the same for all of you too!!!!!

(This next part is in response to a request that I - Charlie's mom- sent to him asking him to give me a narrative of a typical day - kind of like "a day in the life of Elder Meyer" thing)

here is my narrative for the week:

the alarm goes off, and i get angry.  the temptation to hit the snooze button is huge but we gotta get movin...... get up, good thing i showered out of the bucket last night because we gotta go.  get out of the house by 7:15 and start asking for a jalone (hitchhike) finally a nice man pulls over and takes us to pajapita to do divisions.  i get to go with elder bernal (my brother in the mission (his trainer was also galvez)) back to la blanca.  in another jalone we get back just in time for lunch.  it was a great lunch: chicken, potates, and a broccoli salad YUM!!!!! its not as great as your food mom but it will have to do.  we leave and get to work. we dont have many appointments for the day so its time to starting talking to people.  we find an old lady and start talking to her.  she is CRAZY but thats ok, we talk to her brother who is 105 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!! NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!! that was crazy!!!!!! then time for ice cream because it is just tooo hot.  we make the lady who gave us ice cream laugh and invite her to church.  go to visit a lady we have been teaching and everything goes great until a stubborn crazy 7th day adventist comes around and tries to tell us the church is wrong because we go to church on sunday... at that point the lesson kinda falls apart but ya cant really expect anything different in guatemala haha.  we go and meet some ladies making tortillas we joke around, eat tortillas and invite them to church.  we go to branch counsil.  it ¨starts¨ at 7. we get there at 7:10 and have to open the church.  by 7:30 a few people have shown up and we start the meeting.  i give my 2 cents and let them know that we missionaries need help too!!!! they listen and i hope something good comes out of it.  we leave and go to our last lesson of the night, it is with great investigator and in the house of a member. we wait, say we will wait 10 more minutes.  then decide to give him 10 more minutes o mercy and he doesnt show.  we leave tired, ready for bed, but hit up one more ice cream place before bed and talk to the owners,  they are super cool we invite them to church they say YES!! (didnt come this week because their baby was sick) but finally after a long day of meeting a ton of people we found somebody prepared by the Lord.  go home and celebrate a hard days work with chicken nuggets!! and then to bed to do it all again...

there it is i hope you like it
well i cant really think of anything else, but have a wonderful week
love
